Volunteering

We are looking for non-technical and technical volunteers to join us in building green technology and contributing to local community groups. In particular, we are looking for people who can get involved with:.

  • communicating and collaborating with other non-profit groups
  • coordinating our activities and volunteers
  • contributing to open source software in a range of programming languages
  • maintaining CoopCloud recipes for deploying apps using docker compose
  • helping us prototype local mesh network using LoRa and similar technologies
  • helping us test technical approaches
  • writing documentation accessible to our broader community

In future we will also need help with:

  • training and involving the wider community
  • community-led decision-making and co-design

Who can volunteer

Volunteering is open to anyone aged 14 and up, regardless of whether you have any skills with computers. Our activities are centred on Merri-bek, but volunteers can live anywhere in Victoria, Australia. You might already have skills in one or more of the following areas, or you might be keen to build them by volunteering with us:

  • organising community groups or volunteers
  • participatory decision-making
  • programming in Rust, Typescript, or Go
  • networking and IT infrastructure

We hope volunteers will join us for at least 6 months.
